Engineering Courses List, Eligibility Criteria & Entrance Examinations

Engineering is the most popular and lucrative career option for Indian students. However, to learn the most out of an engineering course and develop potent skills, it is imperative to choose the right specialization and college. Here, in this article, I have stated some of the popular engineering courses, their eligibility criteria and entrance examinations to appear for.

Isaac Asimov, a well-known, American writer, once said, and I quote, “Science can amuse and fascinate us all, but it is engineering that changes the world.”  And I think this has to be the most accurate statement concerning engineering. With continuous energy to innovate and find solutions to problems, engineers really have transformed the world.

Being an engineer, you will learn practical skills, as compared to theoretical knowledge. You will gain those skills and abilities only when the engineering branch you choose aligns with your interests. And with selecting the right branch of engineering, it is also essential to pick the right college. College plays a significant role in moulding a student's career.

The most initial step in building a flourishing career for science aspirants is to opt for - Bachelor of Engineering (B.E.) or Bachelor of Technology (B.Tech). However, students aren't aware of the vast areas of specializations available in engineering.

As a result, in this article, I have stated the list of some popular engineering courses besides the eligibility criteria, and entrance examinations required.

What is engineering?

Engineering is a stream that involves the application of science, mathematics and technology in innovating, designing and providing solutions to distinct problems of versatile fields. Here are some of the most popular branches of engineering:

· Civil Engineering

· Computer Engineering

· Electrical Engineering

· Mechanical Engineering

· Chemical Engineering

· Automobile Engineering

Besides this, there are various specializations to choose from in engineering. Students can opt for Master of Engineering or Master of Technology after completion of B.E./B.Tech.

Without a further ado, let's get started with the details.

Engineering Eligibility Criteria:

B.E./B.Tech Course:

· Minimum Qualification – 10+2 std.

· Minimum of 45% of marks in the science field 12th class.

· Must have studied Physics, Chemistry and Maths as core subjects in 12th class.

Course Duration:  3-years

Diploma in Engineering Courses:

· Minimum Qualification - 10th std.

· Passed 10th std. from State Board or Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) or the Council of Indian School Certificate Examination, New Delhi or the International School Board or the National Institute of Open Schooling or equivalent.

· Minimum eligibility for the percentage of marks should be as managed by the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE).

Course Duration:  3-years

M.E./M.Tech Course:

Successful completion of B.E./B.Tech with a valid score.

Course Duration:  2-years

Engineering Entrance Examinations:

After deciding to do engineering, it's time to prepare for engineering entrance examinations that a candidate will appear for after 12th class. In India, IIT JEE Main and IIT JEE Advanced are the most accepted entrance examinations for engineering.

Other than that, one can appear for state-level entrance examinations for engineering. And for M.E./M.Tech, candidates will have to appear for GATE (Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering) exam.

I think this is what I wanted to discuss in the study of engineering with you all. Engineers are the inventors, critical thinkers and problem-solvers of the world. And so they are going to stay in demand now and in future as well.

But, of course, make sure that you choose the right specialization for yourself. And double-check before finalizing a good college because you have to spend a good number of years studying in that college.

In case, you haven't found a desirable engineering college for yourself; then check out the site of Marwadi University. In my view, Marwadi University is the best engineering college to pursue education. The university has been awarded as the Best Engineering College of India - West 2016. And it has been also accredited with NAAC A+ certificate, which suffices the concerns in regards to quality education.

You can read about the reasons to choose Marwadi University for pursuing engineering, here.
